Woman dead after plunging car into pond at Harper College

Following an accident earlier today, Harper College officials have announced to The Harbinger that this afternoon a woman was pronounced dead after driving her car into the Harper College pond. At the time of this writing, officials have yet to reveal the name of the deceased driver, or why her car was found in the pond. More on this story as it unfolds.

Former Harper student Haley Reinhart survived another week on “American Idol,” securing her position into the show’s top 12 finalists.

Despite being one of the bottom three vote-getters in the competition Thursday, Reinhart received more votes than Ashton Jones, who ultimately ended up leaving the show.

Last Wednesday, Reinhart sang her own rendition of the song entitled “Blue,” which was originally a 1996 country song that Leann Rimes sang. Reinhart put her own spin on the song, yodeling at times and showing off her husky singing voice. Read more »

Libyan Learder Blames Bin Laden

Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi is blaming al Qaeda for the continuous uprisings in his country. Anti-government protests have been going on since February 15th.

Revolts have been sparked because of citizens’ anger that Qaddafi has been ruling the country since 1969. He is currently the world’s longest ruling non-royal head of state.

Qaddafi said that his country is being brainwashed by people like Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden. He blames the terrorist organization for allegedly giving the youth drugs to make them turn against the government. Violence has become widespread in the country, and hundreds of Libyans have died in the protests. Read more »

The Meeting at Harper

On Thursday, February 17th, Harper College hosted a production of award-winning play The Meeting in honor of Black History Month. The premise of The Meeting is simple: What would happen if legendary black civil rights revolutionaries Malcolm X and Martin Luther King were to meet before they were assassinated?

Written by performed Jeff Stetson and performed by Washington D.C.-based Pin Points Theatre, The Meeting has won numerous awards, including eight NAACP Theater Awards, a Louis B. Mayer award, and six New York AUDELCO nominations.  It has enjoyed production both in the USA and abroad, with productions taking place in both Europe and Asia. Read more »
